"The Chemistry department at KFUPM extends a warm invitation to exceptional undergraduate students, both male and female, hailing from universities across Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region, encouraging their active involvement in this event. Notably, this year's event is generously sponsored by SipChem. The 2nd edition of the CHEMATHON competition is set to take place at the KFUPM premises and is scheduled for October 5, 2023."


  • Competition Benefits:
    • Financial awards for the three winning teams.
    • - 1st Prize: 14,000 SAR
    • - 2nd Prize: 12,000 SAR
    • - 3rd Prize: 10,000 SAR
    • The best (10) ten posters will receive 2500 SAR each
    • Certificates of recognition for all participants.
    • Opportunity to network with Gulf students, faculty, researchers, and industry professionals.
    • KFUPM will provide one-night accommodations for the required participants

  • Eligibility:
    • Being an undergraduate or undergraduate student who graduated in the year 2022 or later.
    • Submission of a research abstract.
    • No literature reviews will be accepted.
    • Research conducted fully or partially recommended to submit

FAQs


Who can participate in the Chemathon?

  • Any undergraduate student or recent graduate (within 1 year after graduation) has yet to join any graduate program.

What types of projects can be submitted to Chemathon?

  • Any research project related to any field of chemistry is eligible for submission.

Can more than one student participate?

  • Yes, more than one student can participate in the same project, but only one student will be listed as a point of contact for each project.

Can the mentor accompany the participant?

  • Yes, the mentor can attend the event.

How do I know that I have been selected for the presentation?

  • A shortlist of applicants will be notified by email.

What should you bring for the presentation?

  • No, the committee will print the poster (submit your poster softcopy before the deadline, if you miss it; you have to bring it with you)

Can my research project be a part of published work?

  • No, a research project has to be an original idea and not based on the publications of others. However, you can present your research that has already been published in which your name appears as a co-author also be considered.

Can I write my research project in the Arabic language?

  • No, all research projects and posters must be prepared in English. However, you might have the choice to present in Arabic or English.

Is it required to have an affiliation?

  • Yes, you have to have an affiliation with an academic department.

How should my research project be structured in the poster?

  • Follow the abstract and poster template

What is the format of my abstract and poster file?

  • For abstract: you can complete the Google form online or upload it as a separate file. The poster should be as a pdf file.
