Professor // Graduate Coordinator

Research in Catalysis Laboratory is focused on the design and synthesis of organometallic ligands and catalysts for the catalytic applications in petrochemistry and organic synthesis

Research Areas

Catalysis

Dr. Bassam El Ali conducts basic and applied research for the synthesis of compounds of value to the petrochemical, commodity chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. His research group investigates the design and synthesis of organometallic P- and N- based ligands for the preparation of active and stable homogeneous and supported catalysts of various transitions metals (Pd, Rh, Ru, Ir, Fe, Cu, Co, Cr, etc). The active catalysts are applied to industrially important processes including cross-coupling reactions, carbonylative cross-coupling reactions, hydrocarboxylation, hydroesterification, alkoxycarbonylation, aminocarbonylation, hydroformylation, hydroaminomethylation, hydroamination, carboxylation, oxidation, cyclization and hydrogenation.

Recyclable transition metal catalysis using organic and inorganic supports is also pursued by his research group.
